CVK’s sponsored 14U Fastpitch Girl’s Softball team did what no other Oregon team has done before – they won the prestigious, invitation-only, Colorado Fireworks Tournament.  Sixty-seven teams from all over the country, and one from Australia, vied for the 2010 crown.  In bracket play, they won consecutive games until running into Georgia Impact (Atlanta).  The Georgia pitcher was outstanding and Thunder lost 4-0.  That knocked our team into the loser’s bracket for Sunday’s games.  To win the tournament, they needed to win five back-to-back elimination games, including two with the undefeated Texas Outlaws (Houston) for the championship.  Incredibly, that is what they did!  Not only did they avenge their loss to the Georgia team, defeating them 9-2 on Sunday, the Thunder hammered Texas 12-1 in the first game, hitting two over the fence.  In the second game, Thunder overcame a 1-0 deficit to explode for five runs in the bottom of the sixth and won it 5-1 in seven innings.

Hats off to the girls!  We are also proud that Thunder was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the tournament umpires!

Their season record is now 54-6-1.  They have qualified and will compete for the National Championship at the 14U National Tournament which will take place August 2-9 in Moline, Illinois.
