Cosgrave Vergeer Kester LLP hosted the 2026 ALFA International Labor & Employment Regional Seminar in Portland on September 9, welcoming ALFA International attorneys and clients for an afternoon of continuing legal education and discussion on evolving workplace issues.

Cosgrave Partner Shane Swilley presented alongside Tamara Nelson of Seattle-based ALFA International member firm Merrick, Hofstedt & Lindsey, P.S., on “Navigating Employment Law Compliance and Litigation in the Pacific Northwest: Regional Updates, Nuances and Best Practices.” Their presentation examined how differences between Oregon and Washington can shape employment compliance and litigation strategy, highlighting regional nuances and emerging risks for employers across the Pacific Northwest.

The program also featured Tim Peeples of Mississippi-based ALFA International member firm Daniel Coker and Brian Sableman of Missouri-based member firm Brown & James, P.C., who presented “Managing AI Discovery in Employment Cases: Tips, Traps and Emerging Trends.” Their session explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in employment litigation, including emerging considerations involving AI-related evidence and discovery.

Following the educational program, attendees continued the conversation over dinner in downtown Portland before attending a Portland Timbers match at Providence Park.
