Cosgrave Unveils Beer Blog

June 10, 2014
We are pleased to introduce our new beer blog. With a growing list of clients in the brewing industry, Cosgrave attorneys are using the blog to discuss industry trends, share a few beer-related stories and highlight their friends in the business.

“No one wants to read a post detailing the legal framework of a small business transaction. But beer? That’s a different story,” says Cosgrave attorney Marcus Reed, who spearheads the firm’s beer-industry practice. “Our clients are brewing great beer and embarking on some exciting projects. This is a great chance to provide a unique perspective on what they’re doing – and it’s a great excuse to try some new beer.”

Visit http://blog.cosgravelaw.com to follow and read the Cosgrave beer team’s musings on seasonal beer releases, upcoming events and interviews with local brewers and cider makers.

We represent close to 40 clients in various areas of the beer industry, including breweries, taprooms, hop farms, festivals and more. Those clients work primarily with Marcus Reed, who has represented small businesses in the state for the past decade. One of those businesses is recently opened Stormbreaker Brewing. Marcus helped them navigate a lease agreement and the permitting process while they worked under a tight deadline to open their brewery.

“Marcus was not only indispensable, but his involvement was crucial and vital to our company from inception,” says Stormbreaker co-owner Dan Malach. “I think it is imperative to have someone with his legal background, coupled with an understanding and passion for the craft beer industry, to help guide not only new breweries, but seasoned veterans as well.”

Marcus, an avid homebrewer, co-founded the Beverage Industry Networking Group (B.I.N.G.) in 2012. The group includes Pacific Northwest business leaders who serve the craft beer, wine, and spirits industries. He also serves on the board of directors for the Oregon Public House, a north Portland pub that donates all of its profits to various charities, contributes to the Oregon Beer Growler, and teaches the legal portion of Portland State University’s Business of Craft Brewing class.
