Jake Cormier has more than twenty years of legal experience. His practice has included representing clients in all aspects of owning and managing a business, ranging from incorporation to advancing their interests before regulators. His clients range from close family-owned ventures to craft industry start ups. He has been in private practice since 1998 and previously practiced in Illinois and Vermont.

Representative Clients:

Craft Brewery:  Formed the entity to establish and operate the brewery, handled all state and local  liquor control permitting, obtained federal brewery permits (TTB), and addressed financing and excise tax issues.

International Glassware Manufacturing Company: Assisted major East Coast glassware supplier in their expansion into the Pacific Northwest. Reviewed and drafted contracts and other legal documents, and handled lawsuits for and against the company related to business contracts. Responsible for finances, corporate structure, and restructuring. Acted as general counsel in a patent matter.

Hydroelectric Facility:  Drafted and filed a petition for issuance of the certificate of public good with a State Public Service Board. Drafted and negotiated the terms of net metering agreements with the customers of the facility to sell the excess generation. Spearheaded a multi-million-dollar financing of the project with a state agency and bank. Handled the drafting of revised corporate governing documents to provide for outside funding. Efforts resulted in first hydroelectric redevelopment in Vermont in over 40 years.

Car Dealerships: Handled the contractual issues and financing and re-financing associated with the purchase and sale of major local car dealerships. Matters also included employer/employee issues and environmental issues.

Real Estate: Represented individual and commercial borrowers as well as local banks in all aspects of real estate transactions.

Craft Industry Start-Ups:  Represented state licensed cannabis growers in licensing and governance.  Represented a craft CBD start-up on all matters related to business formation and national distribution.

Jake graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1992. He earned his law degree and Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School in 1996. While in law school, Jake was accepted to participate at the Vermont Legal Clinic and interned with Director of the Vermont Law School Environmental Law Center.

Jake is actively licensed in Oregon and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1996, the Vermont State Bar in 1998, the United States District Court of Vermont and the United States Bankruptcy Court District of Vermont in 1999.


Jake has donated his time to causes around juvenile justice and community development.


Jake has volunteered to serve as a moot court judge, served on the Board of Directors and a public library and donates some of his time to support local community and school activities in the Eastmoreland neighborhood.


Outside the office Jake likes to travel and explore Oregon’s natural wonders with his family and friends. He also enjoys cross-country skiing on Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor, coaching his youngest son’s competitive soccer team and spending time with his three children and wife Maggie.
