David Williams has over thirty years of experience in business and insurance-related litigation. His practice specializes in attorney liability defense, commercial litigation and estate and trust disputes. David is past Chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. He is a former instructor at Northwestern College of Law, Lewis and Clark College and has been an approved mediator and arbitrator for the Multnomah County Circuit Court.
Prior to joining Cosgrave, David served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Micronesia (he speaks Trukese) and as a Vista Lawyer volunteer.
Education & Bar Admissions:
David earned a bachelor’s degree in government at Lake Forest College in 1970. He received his law degree, cum laude, from Northwestern College of Law, Lewis and Clark College in 1975.
David became a member of the Oregon State Bar and the United States District Court for Oregon in 1975. He was admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1976 and the Washington State Bar in 2004.
David is a past member and Chair of the Board of Directors of Multnomah County Legal Aid Service and a member of the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel, the American Bar Association, and the Multnomah Bar Association. He is AV rated (highest rating) by the Martindale-Hubbell National Law Directory’s peer review for his ethical standards and legal ability.
David has volunteered his time as a leader and mountaineering instructor for the Explorer Scouts, the National Outdoor Leadership School, the Thacher School and other youth groups.
When not in the office, he enjoys sailing, cycling, and mountaineering.
